Jackson Sellers in Kichijoji, a Tokyo suburb.

Jackson Sellers, a professional writer and editor for a half century, lived in Southern California until his passing in June of 2013, but he can be considered an old Japan hand. As a naval officer, student and newspaperman, he spent most of his adult youth in that fascinating country, married a Japanese woman, and then, as an old man, began vacationing at length in Japan and writing about Japanese history and culture. His prominent Japanese friends kept him from making too many mistakes. Jackson was retired from the Los Angeles Times. In the photo above, he clutches his ever-present journal at a park in Kichijoji, a Tokyo suburb where he once lived.

The Original Tomcat

The Original Tomcat  is Jackson’s book about the USS Colahan's battles against the Japanese during World War II. Although out of print, it can sometime be found on Amazon.com
